When Rally Cars Became Monsters
Group B produced some of the fastest and wildest rally cars ever built. Audi, Peugeot, Lancia, and Ford created machines so extreme that the era became legendary.
In the 1980s, rally regulations barely limited anything.
So manufacturers built the wildest cars they could.
- Audi Sport Quattro S1
- Peugeot 205 T16
- Lancia Delta S4
- Ford RS200
- MG Metro 6R4
These weren’t road cars with roll cages. They were purpose-built machines with four-wheel drive, turbochargers, and extreme aerodynamics.

They raced down narrow roads, with spectators often standing alarmingly close.
Watch old Group B footage today and it doesn’t look real.
After several serious and fatal accidents, Group B’s era ended in 1986.
Today, the FIA’s historic regulations still list cars like the Sport Quattro S1, RS200, Delta S4, and 205 T16 as Group B vehicles banned for safety reasons.
If you could drive ONE Group B car at full attack…
Which one would you choose?
