Why Did This Formula 1 Car Have Six Wheels?
The Tyrrell P34 wasn't a publicity stunt. This bizarre six-wheeled Formula 1 car actually raced, scored podiums, and even won a Grand Prix.
Someone saw a Formula 1 car and thought the issue was clear.
It needed two more wheels.
Meet the Tyrrell P34.

There was a real reason for the extra wheels.
Tyrrell used four tiny front wheels instead of the usual two large ones.
Smaller wheels could tuck in behind the bodywork, out of the airflow.
But smaller tires also meant less rubber on the track, so Tyrrell added four of them.
Four front, two rear.
It actually worked.
The P34 raced, and it scored podiums.
At the 1976 Swedish Grand Prix, Jody Scheckter won with it.
His teammate Patrick Depailler took second.
A six-wheeled Formula 1 car finished 1–2 in a Grand Prix.
Imagine opening the iRacing setup screen and seeing:
Front Left Front Middle Left Other Front Left…
😂
If iRacing released this tomorrow, would you buy it?
